EARTH DAY SF TRASHION/ FASHION SHOW
The talented young designers of Truckee High School’s Envirolution Club will unveil their new line of earth-friendly clothing at this year’s Earth Day S.F. celebration . The Trashion Show will feature glamorous outfits and exciting fashions, all created from recycled products that would have otherwise been buried in our local landfills.
The Envirolution Club has been working hard to spread the message that trash is toxic, and if reused properly can be super cute!
Here are some "Green Fun-Facts"...
Americans throw away:
- 25 billion Styrofoam cups yearly
- 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour
- Enough glass bottles and jars to fill the two skyscrapers every two weeks, and;
- 40 billion soft drink cans and bottles.
If you put these bottles and cans end to end, they would stretch from the Earth to the moon 20 times!
If 84 percent of all the waste from a typical home is recyclable, then why don’t we recycle it?
If every single American recycled just one tenth of our newspapers, we could save 25 million trees a year!
We, as a nation, and as part of the world community, need to think before we throw away a soda can or newspaper.
The Envirolution Club wants to inform the community of ways to reuse the things we would have otherwise thrown away to make something that is useful and fashionable. Among other projects, the club has done an energy audit of Truckee High School. Inspired by last year’s Earth Day including collecting materials and coming up with design concepts.
